Jerry riding Bull Toro Bravo History Page One

Jerry Brown a RCA card holder started a rodeo arena on the home ranch along the San Joaquin River in 1964 along with Bob Robinson from Canada. The arena operated for 5 years during which time Jerry rode saddle bronc, bareback horses but more often than not he rode bulls. His father, Duncan Brown, a long time standing Rodeo Cowboy Association card holder during the 40's and 50's was well known for his high spurring action on bareback horses. In 1988 Jerry, along with his mother Dolores Brown, formed The Toro Bravo Arena along the San Joaquin River in Fresno, California. The arena was named Toro Bravo, meaning brave bull, was developed to train bucking bulls and young bull riders alike. Toro Bravo was built through the effort of those who loved the sport of bullriding. Duncan riding Horse The original arena consisted of a wooden round pen used for practices, wooden bucking chutes, and lightweight paneling for the large bucking arena. The bulls consisted of stock from the local feedlots, surrounding ranches, and several times a telephone call from a friend claiming they had a champion bucker. Bullriding practices were held each Wednesday night along with the October Bull Bash production held at the end of every October. Today Toro Bravo has evolved into a top notch bull riding training facility along with monthly jackpots, weekly practices, futurities, layover facility, clinics and vet services.
