Cosca Family History Page One, Skyline Ranch
Steve learned to ride horses and bulls while growing up at the Skyline
Ranch off Redwood Road in the Oakland, California hills. Steve's
father Stanley built large white barns that
housed 80 horses. Built in 1950, the year Steve was
born, the Skyline Ranch
had a roping arena, restaurant,
tack rooms, wash racks, indoor riding ring, club room,
blacksmith shop, saddlemaker shop, calf roping
and bucking chutes.
In the early 1970's, the most famous resident of Skyline Ranch was the mule
Charlie O, mascot of the Oakland A's baseball team. Steve paraded Charlie O
around every home game. The Cosca family just donated Charlie O's green
blanket, headstall
and bit, hater and lead shank to the
Kansas City Baseball Historical Society Museum for display. Steve's
mother Florence shown seated on the fence with her registered
Pinto, Oak Haven Chief in 1940. Stanley is pictured on the right
riding a Quarter Horse stallion horse named Cannonball, in 1970.Click for more Cosca Rodeo History.
